Portable Container Offices — A Fleet That Moves With Your Project
Portable container offices for projects that physically advance — highway, transmission line, pipeline, phased metro, or dam build running across multiple base camp positions over 24 to 36 months — are specified differently from a single-unit order. You are not buying one container office; you are specifying a fleet that arrives together, installs together, and relocates together as the project’s work front advances.
This page covers what changes when the unit count goes from one to five. Fleet sizing, fabrication discipline for identical units, coordinated dispatch, multi-truck relocation logistics, and base-camp planning across the project lifetime.
For one unit redeployed across separate sequential projects, see our container portable office page. For a single fixed-location deployment, our container site office page is the right reference.
Project Signals That Justify a Fleet, Not a Single Unit

SAMAN supplies fleet-scale offices for EPC contractors running highway projects with multi-base-camp lifecycles.
Three signals in your project brief tell you a fleet is needed, not one unit.
Linear or geographically-advancing scope. Highway, transmission line, pipeline, metro phased construction, mining face advance. The work front itself moves and the office complex moves with it.
Parallel functional zones at the base camp. Engineering and drawing review, project management, safety and QA, document control with authority and visitor reception. Each function needs its own physical space at scale — not partitions inside one container.
Project duration past 18 months with planned base camp shifts. Dam builds, large EPC projects, major infrastructure work. The first base camp is rarely the last one.
How Many Units Your Project Actually Needs — Function-Mapped Fleet Sizing

SAMAN function-mapped fleet — engineering, project management, safety, records, and reception all in dedicated units.
Fleet sizing is not done by adding up engineer headcounts. It is done by mapping project functions to physical office zones.
Highway construction, 50 to 100 km, 18 to 24 months. Three units — engineering and drawing review, project management and meetings, safety with QA and document control.
Dam, 500 MW power plant, or major industrial project, 24 to 36 months. Five units — add a dedicated records and procurement office, and a separate authority and visitor reception.
Pipeline or transmission line, 200+ km, two simultaneous work fronts. Five to seven units split across two base camps operating in parallel. Each base camp gets its own engineering and project management function.
Mining face advance or quarry development, 24 to 36 months. Four units, fitted out for relocation every 6 to 9 months as the working face advances.
For per-unit interior configuration — drawing review tables, safety registers, document alcoves — see our site office container page.
Specifying a Fleet of Identical Units — What Differs from Single-Unit Orders

SAMAN convoy arrival at a multi-span bridge build — three units delivered together for coordinated installation.
Five fabrication and dispatch decisions only matter when the unit count is more than one.
Identical fitout across every unit. Same internal layout, same electrical socket positions, same AC bracket mounting, same door hardware. Every unit must be interchangeable for the relocation cycle to work. A unit that cannot swap roles with another unit creates a procurement liability.
Numbered serial fabrication. Each unit ships with a factory serial number cross-referenced to the purchase order, IS 2062 material test certificate, and warranty record. Required for government and EPC procurement audits.
Paired electrical specs. Same MCB rating, same generator input socket, same earthing arrangement on every unit. Site electricians do not need to relearn each unit.
Function-priority dispatch sequence. The engineering and drawing-review unit ships first, so design review can run from day 1 of base-camp commissioning. Project management and meeting units follow in the second batch. Safety, QA, and document-control units complete the fleet last. Each unit’s role is locked at order stage — no fleet sits half-staffed waiting for the function it actually needs to start work.
Parallel-placement install scheme. Two cranes work the pad layout from opposite ends — odd-numbered units from one side, even-numbered units from the other. The full fleet sits on its pads inside one shift. Electrical commissioning runs unit-by-unit through the second day, with no rework between units because every fitout is identical.
For the per-unit fabrication checklist, see our prefabricated container office page.
Moving the Fleet Together When the Base Camp Shifts

SAMAN sequential crane-on at a base-camp shift — fleet relocation completed across a 3 to 5 day operation.
A 25 to 40 km base-camp shift for a five-unit fleet is not five separate single-unit moves. It is a sequenced 3 to 5 day operation.
Day 1 — Decommission. All units disconnected together: MCB panels off, AC brackets unbolted, interior fittings packed. Each unit lifted onto a flatbed in sequence.
Days 2 to 3 — Convoy transit. Three to five flatbed trucks move together. A pad-preparation crew runs ahead at the new position so the ground is ready for arrival.
Days 4 to 5 — Sequential crane-on at the new base camp. Two cranes work the placement schedule. Recommissioning is per unit — levelling pads checked, MCB reconnected, AC bracket bolted back. Each unit takes 4 to 6 hours.
What does not relocate cleanly: any site-built infrastructure between units. Covered walkways, shared electrical distribution boards, common signage. These must be modular or temporary at original install — never site-built.
For single-unit within-project relocation, see our construction site office page.
Planning Across Multiple Base Camp Positions

SAMAN fleet commissioned and operational at an industrial facility project — fleet handover marks Day 1 of base-camp use.
Most large infrastructure projects shift base camp one to three times across the project’s full duration. Fleet procurement must account for every position, not just the first.
At each future position, plan for: crane access, road access for a multi-truck convoy, levelling pad foundations sized for the full unit count, generator and electrical layout, and surface drainage. A site survey for the next position should run three to four weeks before the scheduled relocation.
Worker accommodation typically relocates alongside the office fleet on the same procurement cycle. Our labor colony range covers that requirement, sized to match your project’s total workforce.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many portable container offices does my project typically need?
Three units cover most highway and road projects of 50 to 100 km running 18 to 24 months — engineering and drawing review, project management, and safety with QA. Five units are standard for dam, 500 MW power, and major industrial projects of 24 to 36 months — adding a records office and a separate authority and visitor reception. Pipeline and transmission projects of 200 km or more with simultaneous work fronts typically run five to seven units split across two base camps.
Can the entire fleet relocate together when the base camp shifts?
Yes — a five-unit fleet relocates in a sequenced 3 to 5 day operation, not five separate single-unit moves. Day 1 is fleet decommissioning. Days 2 to 3 are convoy transit with a pad-preparation crew running ahead at the new position. Days 4 to 5 are sequential crane-on at the new base camp using two cranes working the placement schedule. Recommissioning takes 4 to 6 hours per unit because every fitout is identical.
How are simultaneous deliveries of multiple units coordinated to one project site?
Fleet dispatch follows a function-priority sequence. The engineering and drawing-review unit ships first so design review can run from day 1 of base-camp commissioning. Project management and meeting units follow in the second batch, and safety, QA, and document-control units complete the fleet last. Total fleet commissioning across 3 to 7 units typically takes 7 to 14 working days from confirmed order at the standard SAMAN lead time of 7 to 21 working days.
